NeoSteam Guide: Mammoth's NeoSteam Tips (v1.0)

Here are a few tips I learned while playing NeoSteam (up to the 2nd Of June). As I have created Rogwell characters, some of the locations mentioned in these tips may be different for Elerd players. Some of these tips may also be inaccurate as some need reconfirmation. If anyone can tell me these locations or assist me with confirmations, I will give credit to them here. Leave me a comment with any information if you can assist me, but please note that comments are moderated and may not appear until I review them every Sunday.

1: When playing a Mage try to cast the first magic spell as far away from the target as possible. You can get a few magic spells in by the time your target gets close enough to you to attack you.

2: If you have a lot of SP, but not enough TP, remember you can train at the Skill Trainers on the outskirts of each town at any time. You will get 300 TP every 5 minutes, as long as you don't move. This is particularly useful for Mages. Remember that you will get booted out of your skill training if you idle for a long time, so be sure to check up on your character and restart the skill training once in a while.

3: You can reset your skills and get back your TP and SP by going to the Skill Master NPC in Gretycos Castle. You can (unconfirmed) only do this up to a maximum of 10 times.

4: Animators, Artifact Makers, Engineers and Smiths can combine/hammer socketed weapons and armor - simply scroll further down the combine/hammering manufacturing machine lists to find them.

5: If you are strapped for cash after level 16, you can save money at low levels by upgrading your existing job specific weapons/armor to +4 with Bronze serillone/ Seril Stone (if the item level requirement is under or equal to level 16) at the manufacturing machine in town. The total defense/attack bonus will be nearly the same as the base stats of level 21 equipment at the armor/weapon selling NPCs, allowing you to save up for the weapon/armor at level 31.

Remember that serillone/Seril Stones have a chance to fail and your weapon/armor may lose some or all of its + bonuses.

Afterwards, you can forge 15 Bronze serillone/Seril Stones into Silver serillone/Seril Stones at a refining machine in town. These improved items remove the level restriction, allowing you to upgrade any item. These items also allow you to upgrade past +4.

If you go further, find the lootable-only Gold serillone/Seril Stones. These stones have the abilities of Silver serillone/Seril Stones, but if the upgrade fails your weapon only loses -2 of its + bonuses.

6: Check the market at the warehouse often for powerful items - you may find find a powerful weapon or armor with decent stats going very cheaply.

7: Remember you can trade between characters on the same account through the warehouse. The only items that cannot be traded are quest items (marked with a Q), or any item that cannot be put into the warehouse.

8: Never forget the power of parties! Although the amount of experience gained from each mob is less than soloing the mobs yourself, you can get through a lot more mobs in the same amount of time. The benefits outweigh the disadvantages in this regard, as you can gain a lot of levels this way.

Parties are particuarly useful in quests that pit you against hard boss mobs (the first being the "Protect the Terawhale" quest.) Unless you are at a very high level, on your own you will find yourself easily defeated (or severely struggling) if you fight alone against these hardened monsters. However, in a party, you can overwhelm an enemy. As long as you are in the party and present at the spot where the fellow party member dealt the final blow, you will get quest credit for the member's kill.
